ABOUT ME
Hi - I'm Jacqui.
A few years back, I fell completely in love with clay. What started off as a hobby, has now become something of an obsession for me.
I am inspired by the art, chemistry and alchemy of ceramics. The transformation of earth, fire, and water into something both fragile and enduring. I love the unpredictability, the richness of materials, techniques and surprises. For me, ceramics is more than a craft - it is a conversation between material and maker, past and the present, the personal and the universal.
Handmade ceramic vessels are deeply intimate objects that nourish, sustain and bear witness to life's most personal moments.
I explore form, colour, texture and meaning to express my sentiments of interposed social themes such as our relationship with the environment, gender and identity. My forms are simple yet suggestive, with asymmetry and organic curves, reminiscent of the earth and the human body. Colour and texture is central to my storytelling. I use vibrant hues in complex, layered glazes to express my emotions and chaos.
I have trained in Australia, Denmark and Italy and continually aspire to deepen my pottery skills. Drawn to experimentation and teaching, I established OoPs – One-off Pottery Studio in 2019. Previously located at Le Studio Art Space in Mordialloc, and now based in Hampton, I make, teach and provide firing services. I also teach wheel-throwing at the Beaumaris Art Group and other venues.
I currently have numerous works on display at Eagles Nest Gallery (https://www.eaglesnestgallery.com.au/) in Aireys Inlet. I have sold and showcased work at The Rose Street Artists Market, Warrandyte Pottery Expo, Brighton Soul Night Market, Moorooduc Station Market, Le Studio Art Space, The Sol Gallery in Brunswick, and Memo Gallery in Healesville with Valley Potters.
Please come and see me sometime. I encourage you to pick up my work and feel my joy in each vessel.
